2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback

The 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback is affordable hatchback version of the Mitsubishi Lancer sedan. It looks as sleek and sporty as the sedan but hatchback design offers more cargo space than the sedan. But cost cutting in the Sportback is visible in the material used in the cabin. The 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback remains almost same as the 2010 Sportback except few minor changes or additions like Mitsubishi’s optional Fuse voice-activation system.

The 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback is available in two front-wheel drive trims – ES and GTS – and one all-wheel drive Ralliart trim. The ES is powered by a 148 hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 145 pound-feet of torque and fuel economy of 24 in the city and 32 on the highway, while the GTS gets a 168-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with 167 lb-ft of torque having fuel economy of 22 in the city and 31 on the highway. The Ralliart models gets a 237 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine with 253 lb-ft of torque and achieves 17 in the city and 25 on the highway.

The ES and GTS models are paired with a five-speed manual transmission, while a continuously variable transmission (CVT) is optional. The Ralliart is paired with a six-speed Twin-Clutch Sportronic Shift transmission (TC-SST) with paddle shifters.

Standard features on the Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback base ES include 16-inch steel wheels, full power accessories, air-conditioning, cruise control, rocker-sill bodywork extensions, keyless entry, a tilt-only steering wheel with audio controls, a trip computer, a 60/40-split rear seat with a center armrest and a four-speaker CD/MP3 stereo with an auxiliary audio jack. Beside getting a more powerful engine the GTS adds 18-inch alloy wheels, aero-style bodywork pieces, Bluetooth, chrome exhaust tips, a sport-tuned suspension, keyless ignition/entry, full power accessories, automatic climate control, sport front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, manual driver-seat height adjustment, the Fuse voice-activation system and a six-speaker stereo with a USB port. The Ralliart adds an automated dual-clutch manual transmission, satellite radio and keyless ignition/entry. Most of the features on top end models are also available as standalone or packaged option along with some additional options.

Title › 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback

Standard safety features in 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback include front-seat side airbags, full-length head curtain airbags, a driver knee airbag and stability control. Antilock brakes are also standard, with four-wheel disc brakes on the GTS and Ralliart and rear drums for the ES.

While the look and performance of the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Sportback makes it score high in the segment the interior drags it down in the list. The material used in the cabin lacks quality. The seats are quite comfortable, with a generous amount of legroom. The cargo is large enough with 13.8 cubic feet of storage and expands up-to 47 cubic feet when the 60/40 split rear seats are folded down. With an adjustable cargo floor the GTS can hold up to 52.7 cubic feet of load.
